3/28/25 - Carlson Cares!
Many Carlson orgs, including SMA, hosted some awesome volunteering events. We wrote Kindness Letters to a children's hospital and had a fun time making drawings and enjoying snacks for this good cause!
3/26/25 - Matthews Speaker Meeting!
Kurt Sauer, Market Leader at Matthews Real Estate Investment Services, gave us insights on commercial real estate and sales work. He also exposed some crazy ways the internet can find people, even those in our club!
3/17/25 - Timberwolves!
SMA took on a Timberwolves game! We enjoyed watching a back-and-forth match between the Timberwolves and the Pacers, leading to an intense overtime match-up. We lost the game 130-132, ending with a missed buzzer-beater two-pointer (so close!)
3/05/25 - Game Night!
We played fun trivia games at our last meeting before spring break! Snacks were enjoyed and we bonded as a group in a casual, team-building meeting.
2/19/25 - National Institute for Social Media Speaker Meeting!
Jennifer Radke, CEO of the National Institute for Social Media (NISM), revealed some shocking statistics on trends in marketing/social media-related positions and explained her path to where she is now. Progress isn't linear, and you could end up somewhere completely different than your expectations! We also enjoyed some delicious Canes - YUM
2/12/25 - Valentine's + Career Prep!
Shontel Smith gave us valuable tips on how to present ourselves at career fairs, along with the importance of researching companies beforehand. Check out both the Carlson and school-wide career fairs, as both are valuable for marketing students. We also enjoyed Valentine-themed snacks and watched the Superbowl halftime for a bit!
2/5/25 - General Mills Speaker Meeting
Tony Burke gave a quick rundown of his experience at General Mills before diving into what goes into a commercial campaign. He walked us through the process with script and storyboard examples, showing how ideas turn into final ads. He also talked about a recent campaign focused on the 10/$1 price deal and shared behind-the-scenes details on his team’s Super Bowl ad. To wrap things up, he shared some solid advice for students—like the importance of networking and building a strong resume!
1/29/25 - Spring Kickoff!
Say hello to spring with SMA! We introduced our new board members along with the awesome plans we have for this semester. We enjoyed LOTS of pizza and did a fun case competition including products that different groups thought should exist and sharing them with everyone - we had products from a Valentine's McDonald's Shake to an epic gym bro, extra protein Chipotle bowl!
12/5/24 - Final Meeting!
This meeting was bittersweet for many board members. We are sad to say bye to our seniors, Jack and Justin. They graduate early and start in the real world soon. We asked them valuable questions reflecting on their college experience and what they enjoyed most. It was a great last wrap-up meeting to end the semester on a good note. We will miss them dearly!
11/20/24 - NABCO Speaker Meeting!
During this meeting, we enjoyed listening to the assistant vice president of marketing, Tim Martinson, at North American Banking Company. He shared a lot of valuable experience he has in the marketing world. Tim also served as a teacher throughout the meeting, sharing the marketing knowledge he thinks is most useful in the real world. We really enjoyed listening to Tim speak; he did a great job!
11/13/24 - Almuni Panel Meeting!
During this meeting, we enjoyed catching up with four of our alumni! They talked through the roles they have in the real world as well as great advice for young students like us. We were able to have yummy snacks with them and catch up with them as well. We are so proud of all of you for what you have accomplished so far, and you are all greatly missed!
11/6/24 - Wild Speaker Meeting!
At this meeting, we welcomed the brand marketing and content director, Chris Barriere. He talked about his experience before diving into what he does at the Wild. Chris discussed some videos he has been able to help create at the Wild but also showed us all the funny videos the Wild has too. You can tell that the Wild team focuses on that team aspect like no other. Thank you Chris for a fantastic meeting! #GoWild
10/30/24 - Halloween Themed Meeting!
Today, we celebrated Halloween with the Student Marketing Association a day early with yummy Qdoba and candy. This meeting included a lot of fun interactives to get everyone in the Halloween spirit. During one of the interactives, we all made a creative and spooky Halloween candy that we wanted to drop. Everyone had a blast at this meeting! Happy Halloween!
10/23/24 - United Health Group Speaker Meeting!
We hosted three amazing speakers at United Health Group and Optum at this meeting! A huge shoutout to the speakers, Anna Gefroh, Dave Henderleiter, and Kristin Rosicky. They all shared the experiences they have had in the work force but also what they currently work on at UHG. We were able to do interactive questions with them and even get merch they provided for free! Overall, this was an amazing speaker meeting!
10/16/24 - Medtronic Speaker Meeting!
This meeting we hosted, Kathy Petron, an amazing influential marketer from Medtronic! Her specification is the cardiac unit at Medtronic and has worked in this unit for 20-plus years. She gave us an overview of what these devices do and shared inspiring stories that go along with these devices! Overall, our marketing club was able to learn so much about the medical field in marketing from our wonderful speaker! This week is jam-packed with fun activities such as bowling and the apple orchard too!
10/09/24 - Fun Outdoor Meeting by the River!
Our Student Marketing team headed down by the river on a nice fall day. We were able to take a much-needed break from school enjoy Oreo Coke and have snacks. Most of all, we played fun games such as cornhole, volleyball, football, spike ball, and more! This meeting was one of my favorites because we got to know everyone on a deeper level.
10/02/24 - Collab Meeting with Net Impact!
Today we had a super quick meeting to prepare for the upcoming career fair! We headed to the Twins game shortly after for a fun group bonding activity to watch the game. It was a great game enjoying yummy food at the Twins home stadium. The Twins even pulled out a huge win to top off the night!

9/11/24 - Student Marketing Association Fall Kickoff!
WELCOME TO THE STUDENT MARKETING ASSOCIATION! Pizza was enjoyed as we introduced what being involved with SMA is all about! We had a fun bingo people interactive at the beginning to get everyone to get to know each other better. We then dived into what SMA has upcoming with our future events. SMA closed out with a fun interactive on the controversial topic from the MN state fair, Deep Fried Ranch.
